WELCOME

Hi! My name is Raumina (Rah-me-na).

I was born in Vancouver, raised in the suburbs of Toronto, and have called Montreal, downtown Toronto, and Victoria home more recently since.

I'm a recent University of Victoria, Faculty of Law graduate with lots to share. I invite you to find out more about me:

WHAT I’VE GIVEN BACK

  • President / University of Victoria Law Students' Society (LSS) / 2021 - Present

    • Preside over and chair all executive meetings, holding the deciding vote

    • Meet regularly with the Dean and Associate Deans to discuss student affairs

    • Represent and advocate for all Faculty of Law students at the University of Victoria

  • First-Year Representative / University of Victoria Law Students' Society (LSS) / 2020 - Present

    • Created two weeks of enticing and engaging Orientation events for the Faculty

    • Created a sponsorship package and worked closely with multiple law firms

    • Creatively found solutions to host safe events in accordance with PHO

    • Planned and implemented one week of virtual orientation: Winter Welcome 2021

    • Created and hosted a weekly summer Zoom Q&A session for incoming students

    • Proactively hosted a 1L Townhall to discuss online learning bringing concerns to Faculty

  • Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) Law Student / ProBono Students Canada, UVic Chapter / 2020 - 2021

    • Researched to create a legal terminology glossary to help clients understand key terminologies surrounding sexual assault in accessible language

 

  • Becoming an Active Bystander Workshop Facilitator / McGill Office of the Dean of Students / 2015 - 2016

    • Led workshops on sensitive materials with a variety of audience types

    • Workshop topics included: what is consent, tools for becoming an active bystander, effectively responding to and providing support for survivors of sexual assault

 

  • VP Communications / McGill Education Undergraduate Society / 2015 - 2016

    • Handled all communications for the EdUS through various social media outlets

    • Created, ordered and managed all merchandise orders for the Faculty of Education

 

  • Head of Communications / McGill Education Frosh / 2013, 2014, 2015

    • Worked closely with all undergraduate faculties at McGill to plan and implement Orientation Week for 7000+ incoming McGill students, and more closely 150 students in the Faculty

    • Responsible for all communications for Education Frosh through various social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, email, website development and management)

    • Produced original promotional videos using Final Cut Pro (bit.ly/edfrosh)

  • Volunteer Coordinator / McGill Education Career Fair / 2014, 2015

    • Oversaw all volunteers (100+) for the Faculty of Education's largest event​

  • Head Coordinator / EDUBuddy: McGill Faculty of Education's Mentoring Program / 2013 - 2015

    • Grew the mentoring program from 20 to 100 participants​

    • Created new training materials and sessions for all "Big Buddies"

    • Planned and ran events for all "Buddies" in the program

  • VP Academic / McGill Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS) / 2013 - 2015

    • Represented Faculty of Education students and their academic needs at an executive level​

    • Acted as liaison between students and administration in the Faculty of Education

    • Sat as the undergraduate representative on the Faculty of Education Dean Selection Committee

  • Founder and Head / FYRE: McGill Education's First-Year Council / 2013 - 2015

    • Recognized a lack of community for first-year students in the Faculty of Education

    • Proposed and implemented a new first-year council for students in the faculty (including interviews, committee training, council structure, mentorship)

 

  • Founder and Manager / Detention Den: 4à7 / 2013 - 2015

    • Created a bi-weekly social event for students and professors in the Faculty of Education

    • Handled all logistics (i.e. liquor permits, liquor orders and coordination with administration)

    • Planned the bi-weekly organization with about 120 participants each week

    • Helped Education Orientation Week have a 75% increase in participants from previous year​

Interesting Facts 

​

  • I have a poodle mix named Alfie! He's the sweetest boy;

  • I have read my childhood diary in front of a packed audience and made it on a podcast doing so (twice!);

  • I have been to almost every province in Canada, (and have had to guide tours in some on my first visit!);

  • I attended a full-day sumo wrestling tournament in Osaka, Japan;

  • I love learning instruments and have spent time learning the piano, alto saxophone and violin;

  • I have lived in the three biggest cities in Canada;

  • I can name all 50 states of the US (I like memorizing things for fun sometimes); and

  • I joked about meeting someone famous in a well-known New York restaurant... and then met the Backstreet Boys
